Kate Beaton

Kate Beaton is a cartoonist, author, and storyteller whose work has brought history, literature, and contemporary social issues to life for readers around the world. Raised in Cape Breton, she developed a distinctive voice that blends humour, historical insight, and sharp cultural observation.

While working in the Alberta oil sands to pay off her student loans, Kate began the webcomic Hark! A Vagrant, whose witty and irreverent takes on historical figures, literature, and popular culture quickly attracted a global readership. It became a New York Times bestselling graphic novel and appeared on numerous “best of the year” lists from publications including Time, The Washington Post, and NPR.

Her graphic memoir Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands drew international attention for its portrayal of labour, isolation, and gender dynamics in Canada’s resource economy. The book won CBC’s 2023 Canada Reads and received major recognition, including Eisner Awards, Harvey Award and Ignatz Awards for cartooning, the Jan Michalski prize for world literature, and Barack Obama's favourite book list of the year.

Kate is also the author of the acclaimed children’s books, imaginative and humorous stories that introduce young readers to themes of courage, kindness, and individuality. She was also an executive producer on a childrens' show for Apple TV.

Jessica Fong

Jessica Fong (She/They) is a California based illustrator known for their stunning cover art in DC Comics’ GLAAD Award–winning Poison Ivy series. Their work captures the “terribly sublime,” a theme that is both haunting and aesthetically captivating.

They contribute a range of covers for DC, Marvel, Mad Cave Studios, IDW Publishing, Image Comics, Heroic Signatures, and more. Jessica's work can also be found in Wizards of the Coast’s Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering, Critical Role’s Midst series, Fandom Inc, Nova and Mali Publishing, and Marvel Snap.

When the opportunity arises, they contribute to indie projects and raise money for various LGBTQ+ causes at conventions and appearances. In their off time, Jessica tends to plants, makes clay miniatures, and works on their comic The Liminal Cafe, a supernatural queer story of two baristas serving to lost souls in a cafe.

Mahdi Khene

Mahdi Khene is a New York City–based cartoonist, publisher, and indie comics creator best known for co‑founding Zuperhero Comics, an independent comic book publisher and creative project launched in 2021.

His work is rooted in underground and self‑published comics culture, blending homage, parody, and original storytelling with a DIY aesthetic that draws from 1980s pop culture, black‑and‑white indie comics, and genre films.

Nina Vakueva

Nina is an independent artist who specialises in comics, illustration and character design and is currently hard at work on the reboot of her webcomic, Lilith's Word.

After graduating from Moscow Architectural University, Nina quickly transitioned into the world of comics and character design, partnering with studios such as DC, Marvel, Riot, and many others.

yudori

Yudori is a cartoonist. She was born in South Korea in 1991 and spent formative years in the Philippines and the US. She studied Fine Arts at SVA in New York until she dropped out to work on her first webcomic series, Pandora’s Choice.

She is most inspired by all things ambivalent. Her interests are history of sex work, colonization, yaoi, abnormal anatomy, and ambiguous dance practices. She likes researching things that are poorly documented and forgotten.

She currently lives in Cambridge, UK, with her partner and two cats
