Thought Bubble and Travelling Man have again teamed up to present micro-bursaries for 15 UK-based comic creators who will each receive space at Thought Bubble Comic Convention 2024 to exhibit, sell and promote their work, plus a cash bursary of £200 minimum.

Five recipients each will be selected from the following: Disabled Comic Creators, Comic Creators of Colour, and Trans/Non-Binary Comic Creators. Recipients can be at any stage of their creative careers, but must be at least working towards creating comics work.


Bursary FAQ

I am an exhibitor already, can I put my name forward? - Yes! You are more than welcome, just tick the option on the form to say you are a current exhibitor. If you’re selected your table fee equal to that of the bursary will be refunded.

I am a past recipient of this micro-bursary, can I put my name forward? - Recipients from the previous two years are not eligible to apply for this years bursary. This is to allow us to support as many creators as possible.

Can I put my name forward for more than one bursary? - If you fit the criteria, then yes! However you can only be selected as a bursary recipient once.

Can I put my name forward as a collective/creative team/joint applicant? - We are only accepting solo submissions at this time.

Why are the bursaries only open to UK based creators? - The bursary requires attendance at Thought Bubble Comic Convention, and is to support and uplift creators in the UK. You do not need to be born in the UK or hold citizenship, just based here.

Bursary Terms & Conditions

- Identity is at the sole discretion of the individual applicant.

- Recipients must be UK based and hold a UK bank account or a PayPal.

- The previous two years micro-bursary recipients are not eligible for this selection round.

- Recipients should be available to travel to Harrogate Convention Centre on the weekend of 16 & 17 November 2024.

- Recipients do not need to be a full time or professional comic creator, but you do need to have made or working towards making comics to be a recipient (webcomics, or anything sequential counts). Note, comics do not need to be the only thing you create.

- If applicants are under 16, a contact for a parent or guardian must also be provided to ensure permission has been granted first, they will also need to accompany you to the convention weekend.

- The £xxxx cash can be used for any means.

- All entrants, whether successful or unsuccessful, will be contacted via email within 15 working days of the deadline.

- The selection process will be curated by the Thought Bubble team.

- Deadline for entrants is midnight BST TBC

- The selected creators will not be announced publicly, however the selected creators are welcome to share publicly should they choose to.
