Joe Sacco is THE comics journalist. Known for his investigative reportage comics, including Palestine, drawn directly from his experiences in occupied Palestine in the early 1990s. Sacco has also created work focusing on the Bosnian War in Safe Area Goražde (2000) and The Fixer (2003), and about Canada's indigenous people in Paying the Land (2020). His latest publication The Once and Future Riot (2025), investigates religious riots in Uttar Pradesh, India. His work has been called "a triumph of empathy", and "grotesquely brutal, and admirably unflinching"
