Between Self-Help and Solidarity - Autobiographical and authorial comics are often seen as solitary and introspective; but they can also be deeply relational. This panel explores how personal storytelling in comics shifts between self-help and solidarity. Comics and illustration researcher Beth Duggleby talks to Bhavani Bala, Lois Dolores, Phillipa Rice and Becky Barnicoat who have created space within their work to open conversation around topics such as shame, parenting and care. The panel will consider how these actions can build community, with a focus on how solo practice might grow into collective action.
